HC Rejects UP Govt's Plea On Termination Of Police Personnel ALLAHABAD, 4 Mar 2009, : In a setback to Mayawati government ahead of Lok Sabha polls, the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday rejected its appeal challenging a single bench order setting aside the termination of services of over 18,000 police personnel appointed during the previous SP regime. "We confirm the judgement of the single judge bench," a division bench comprising Justices Janardan Sahai and Rakesh Sharma said turning down the special appeal by Uttar Pradesh government as thousands of dismissed constables standing outside the High Court premises broke into cheers. The single judge HC bench had in its order in December last year set aside the annulment of appointments of more than 18,000 police personnel, made during the previous Samajwadi Party regime in the state, by the BSP government for alleged irregularities. The single judge had observed that in the inquiry conducted to look into the alleged irregularities that had taken place in the recruitment process, no effort was made to separate "the good candidates from the tainted ones". On Wednesday's order evoked a jubilant reaction from the thousands of dismissed constables. Shouting slogans like "High Court zindabad" and "Mayawati murdabad", they embraced each other and smeared gulal (colour) on each other's faces in what they described as "advance celebrations of Holi".
