J. Krishna Iyer Demands Formation Of High Powered Commission Dated : 27-02-2009 Source UNI Delhi : TEXT : Retired Supreme Court Judge V R Krishana Iyer demanded the formation of an high-powered commission to inquire into the violence at the Madras High court premises on Februay 19. Blaming the lawyers for assaulting Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy, Justice Iyer, in a statement here, he charged the administration and said justice in the state was humiliated by the police action inside the court premises. Pointing out that grave collapse of the rule of law was a national catastrophe, he wanted the state government to withdraw the police completely from the High Court premises and suspend the Commissioner of Police and the DGP or else all the judges of the court must resign en-mass until the power and dignity of the judiciary was restored. Urging that the Central cabinet must act immediately, he said otherwise the cause of justice, which was very basic to fundamental rights, would be made a cadaver. UNI
