Knight Riders taken to court for copyrights violation 5/14/2008 A lawsuit challenging Kolkata Knight Riders, owned by cinestar Shah Rukh Khan, alleged copyright violation for playing popular hindi songs during IPL match at Eden Gardens, was filed before Calcutta High Court today. The petitioner, Indian Performing Rights Society (IPRS), alleged that some popular songs like "Om Shanti Om" were played during Kolkata-Delhi match at Eden without permission. The IPRS prayed before the court an order restraining the KKR from using these songs. It claimed that the KKR had violated the copyright act. The case came up for hearing before the bench of justice Sanjib Banerjee. The Kolkata Knight Riders counsel, however, told the court that the songs in questions would not be played again during the match. The matter will come up for hearing after the court reopens in mid June from summer vacation. UNI
