Lawyers, litigants hit by court ‘Holidays' Ghaziabad, March 04, 2009 Lawyers at Ghaziabad district court worked for only 25 days in the last two months. Frequent strikes, condolences and government holidays have marred the court’s activities, leaving lawyers and litigants frustrated. Out of the total 61 days since January, 12 were devoted to strike calls, nine were Saturdays, nine Sundays and two holidays. “We observe strike on Saturdays as lawyers are demanding a high court bench in western Uttar Pradesh,” said Ghaziabad Bar Association (GBA) president Shiv Dutt Tyagi. Litigants also feel the disruption. “We cannot blame any one. Loss of time have hit us hard. Cases got delayed,” said litigant Sachin Garg. “We also lose work in these cases. But, it is not only the litigant who suffer, our business and preparations also suffer as the cases get prolonged,” said Harpreet Singh, an advocate. Tyagi admits some delays are due to the GBA. “Some days were absorbed in Bar Association elections, some were devoted to strike calls,” he said.
