Lawyers Protest Against Amendments To CrPC 15 Jan 2009, 0350 hrs IST, TNN LUCKNOW: A delegation of the district and sessions court lawyers on Tuesday handed over a memorandum to the UP governor against the recent amendments in section 309, CrPC by the parliament. The delegation warned that if the amendments were implemented, they would demand resignation of 62 parliamentarians, who are from the lawyers' community. The delegation comprised Lucknow Bar Association (LBA) president, CL Dixit, secretary, GN Shukla, and former presidents of Bar Associations including Saroj Kumar Shukla, Raj Kumar Yadav and Mendi Lal Tripathi. The lawyers said that the amendments in section 309 are irrational and against public interest. LBA secretary, GN Shukla said that the Bar Council of India (BCI) had protested against the new provisions on September 2, 2008 also -- before passing of the amendments in parliament on December 12, 2008.
