MADRAS HC GIVES BAIL TO 14 LAW STUDENTS 12/23/2008 The Madras High Court granted bail to 14 law students arrested for ransacking the college principal’s room on November 13. Justice T Suthandhiram allowed the bail petitions filed by Mr Kannan and 13 others and granted bail. He directed them to appear before the police concerned when and where required. Following the group clash at the Dr Ambedkar Government Law College here on November 12, the petitioner students, on November 13, allegedly indulged in violence in front of the principal’s room and broke the window panes, and besides damaging college property. Mr Kannan and others were arrested by the Esplanade Police and remanded in judicial custody on November 15. In the meantime, Principal Sessions Judge P Devadoss dismissed the bail petition filed by Chithirai Selvan and 25 others for the second time. The 26 persons were allegedly involved in the group clash on November 12 and attacked co-student Bharathikannan,Arumugam and Aiyathrai.
