Madras HC judge takes private airways to task

A judge of the Madras High court has taken to task, a private airways for not serving food during a flight from Madurai to Chennai. Mr Justice S Regupathy, judge of Madras High court filed a complaint against Jet Airways, after the air hostess refused to serve food to him, his assistant and seven other passengers on the ground that ‘they are not their passengers’. The judge and his assistant had booked in the Kingfisher airlines to fly from Madurai to Chennai, but the flight was cancelled due to some technical reasons. As the judge insisted that he has to travel to Chennai urgently, Kingfisher made arrangements for the judge, his assistant and seven other passengers in the Jet Airways, which left for Chennai en route Coimbatore. While flying, passengers on board were served food, but the judge and seven other passengers, who were accommodated in the flight at the last minute, were denied food. When the judge raised the issue, the crew told him that they had ordered food only for their passengers. As they are passengers of ‘kingfisher passengers’, they could not be served food, they contended. Feeling insulted and humiliated, the judge on arriving here, asked his assistant to lodge a complaint. After his assistant telephoned and complained, Mr Jangid, Suburban Police Commissioner deputed a Deputy Commissioner of police to inquire into the incident. After the Deputy Commissioner found fault with the Jet Airways, Mr Jangid received a written complaint from the judge’s assistant and launched an investigation. Based on this, senior police officers visited the Jet Airways office late this evening and interrogated the officials.
