LUCKNOW: In the wake of reports that some of Mahatma Gandhi's belongings were likely to be auctioned in the US, the authorities in Washington and New York have been asked to take steps for the return of the personal assets of the father of the nation to India. "The government's attention had been drawn by the media on the move to auction some personal belongings of Mahatma Gandhi and the Embassy in Washington and Consulate Generel in New York will take care to bring them back to India", Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anand Sharma told newspersons here. Gandhi's message and philosophy is more relevant today and he is held in high esteem throughout the world. So, the Centre has decided to acquire all his assets, Sharma said. Asked what if the authorities faced some reluctance from the auctioneers to hand over the Mahatma's belongings, he said such a problem had arisen in the past in London too and was taken care of. Sharma, who is also Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, was here to attend Akashvani Annual Awards function.
