Karnataka High Court Chief Justice P D Dinakaran facing allegations of land grabbing and charges of corruption was on Friday not available for comments on a media report that he passed orders allegedly in favour of a NRI family whose hospitality he had enjoyed in Canada. Dinakaran's office did not put through calls to the judge for his reaction to the media report. The office suggested that a call be made on Monday when the High Court will reconvene after the week-end. Justice Dinakaran presided over the court proceedings for some time, court officials said. According to the media report, available documents showed that in 2005, Dinakaran in a land dispute he heard in the Madras High Court had ruled in favour of a Canada-based NRI family well known to him and with whom he had allegedly stayed during his visit to Toronto in August 2004. A Supreme Court collegium on October 25 had deferred a decision again on elevation of Justice Dinakaran to the Supreme Court after deciding to examine afresh the allegations against the judge. Justice Dinakaran, whose elevation as an apex court judge is now on hold, has maintained that allegations against him are not true.
