SC notice to CBI on petition by Ashok Todi in Rizwanur case The Supreme Court issued a notice to the CBI on a petition filed by Kolkata-based businessman Ashok Todi on his bail application in the Rizwanur suicide case. Todi, who along with others is facing allegations of abetting the suicide of his son-in-law Rizwanur, has come in appeal against Calcutta High Court order vide which his bail application has been dismissed. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam fixed January 6, 2009 for hearing the petition of Todi. With this order, Todi will have to spend his New Year’s Day in jail. Todi was opposed to the marriage of his daughter Priyanka Todi to Rizwanur. Todi, his brother Pradeep Todi, his brother-in-law Anil Sarogi and three police officials including the then DCP, Detective Branch, Kolkata, Ajoy Kumar are facing trial for an offence under Section 306(common intention)/34IPC (abetment to suicide). According to the family members of the deceased, Rizwanur was murdered and did not commit suicide. UNI
