Justice Nirmal Yadav of Punjab and Haryana High Court, facing inquiry in cash at judge’s door step has written a letter to Justice T S Thakur, Chief Justice of High Court, for allocation of judicial work to her.

Judicial work was withdrawn from her following the incident in which Rs 15 lakhs, sent by a Karol Bagh based hotelier here, were sent by mistake at the residence of another judge of the HC, Justice Nirmal Jeet Kaur, who then lodged an FIR with the police and informed Justice Thakur about the incident.

It was revealed during the investigation that the money was in fact sent for Justice Nirmal Yadav Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan , however, said she has not responded to his letter asking her to respond to the report of a three-judges inquiry committee which had indicted her.

The CJI in view of the recent exposure of corruption in judiciary, is determined to deal with such cases sternly and has even permitted the CBI to interrogate sitting SC and HC judges, for the first time.

Union Law Minister M Veerappa Moily has also made it clear that judicial reforms will be his first priority and steps will be taken to fix accountability on the erring judges of the superior courts involved in corruption cases.

Attorney General G E Vahanvati is of the opinion that a handful cases of corruption in judiciary are being blown out of proportion by the media.

Former CJ V N Khare also shared similar views.
