Pay Comm: Service chiefs submit p'sals for changes New Delhi, Apr 1 (PTI) Aiming for modifications in the Sixth Pay Commission's recommendations, Chairman, Chiefs of Staff Committee Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor today met Defence Minister AK Antony and submitted joint proposals on the issue. The proposals submitted by the service chiefs would now be framed into revised recommendations by the Defence Ministry and handed over to the Anomalies Committee of the Finance Ministry. Though Defence Ministry officials did not disclose the contents of the proposals, they said the service chiefs are understood to have proposed more salaries and increased allowances for soldiers and pointed out major anomalies in the salary structure of both officers and personnel. The service chiefs have drawn attention to the continuing shortage of officers in all three services - Army, Navy and Air Force - and shortfalls being witnessed in attracting young people to the armed forces. The chiefs have proposed major changes in the military service pay - a new concept introduced by the Sixth Pay Commission. The service chiefs proposed having more running pay bands at both the soldiers and officers level and larger increase in allowances for deployment in extreme high altitude areas and counter-insurgency operations.
