A new experiment is in the offing in the Supreme Court which will soon have a system in place to audio-record hearings of important cases. The idea has been mooted for audio recording of the proceedings and arguments, particularly in the matters in which the hearing goes on for several days, Secretary General of apex court V K Jain said on Tuesday. "The audio recording of the hearings will help the judges in cross-checking the arguments before delivering the judgement," he said. Jain said to start with the system will be first introduced in the courtroom of Chief Justice of India and after analysing its success a decision will be taken to extend the facility in other courtrooms. He said CPWD has already been informed about placing the system in the CJI's courtroom and it was a matter of a month or two when audio-recording of hearings in apex court a reality. "The success of the system will have a far-reaching impact. Once the audio recording of the hearings is a success in apex court it may be extended to High Courts and the lower courts," he said.
