SC for working out modalities for high security number plate The Supreme Court asked the Centre and state govts to work out within six months the modalities for the implementation of the scheme of high security registration plate for vehicles to prevent use of stolen vehicles for terror acts. "Needless to say the scheme appears to have been introduced keeping in view the public safety and security of the citizens. Let necessary decision be taken, if not already taken, within a period of six months from today," a Bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat said on Thursday. The Court refused to go into the contention of the Centre and some states questioning the locus stand of the petitioner and commercial concern being pushed under the garb of PIL. "Without going into the question as to whether the petition is a bonafide PIL, we feel it would be in the interest of all concerned if the states and the Union Territories take definite decision," the Bench also comprising Justices C K Thakkar and L S Panta said. The court was hearing a public interest litigation filed by Chairman of All India Anti-Terrorist Front, M S Bitta, who had sought implementation of the scheme on a priority basis.
