SC REFUSES BAIL PLEA OF TODI'S IN RIZWANUR RAHMAN CAS The Supreme Court refused to issue directions to the Calcutta High Court to dispose before Christmas holidays the bail application of Pradeep Todi who along with his brother Kolkata-based businessman Ashok Todi, is facing allegations of abetting the suicide of Rizwanur Rahman son-in-law of Ashok Todi. A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam, however, indicated that the apex court can request the High Court for expeditious disposal of the bail application but cannot fix a particular date for the disposal of the bail application. Counsel for Pradeep Todi has prayed for directions to the High Court to dispose of the bail application of Pradeep Todi. With today’s order, Pradeep Todi will have to remain in jail till New Year date. Todi’s were opposed to the marriage of their daughter Priyanka Todi to Rizwanur. According to the police, the deceased had committed suicide while according to the family members of the deceased he was murdered. Three policemen including the then DCP (Detective Branch) Ajoy Kumar are also facing trial in the case. UNI
