SC restrains Maharastra govt from attaching railway stations New Delhi, Mar 11 (PTI) The Supreme Court today restrained Maharastra government from attaching Railway Stations of Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) for allegedly defaulting in paying land revenue to it. A Bench headed by the Chief Justice K G Balakrishanan, after brief hearing of Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium, passed an interim order preventing the state government to attach the railway stations. ASG contended that the KRCL was governed by India Railway Act and it was exempted from payment of land revenue. "All Railway lands within the state are exempt from land revenue under Article 285 of the Constitution," Subramanium said adding that without addressing the objections raised by the Corporation, the government unilaterally decided to attach the property. It was contended by the corporation that under section 187 of Indian Railway Act its property could not be attached. On the refusal of the Bombay High Court to grant interim relief, the state government went berserk and tried to attach stations. PTI Tags- Source:ptinews.com
