Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot assumes charge of the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment

Shri Thaawar Chand Gehlot took over as the Union Minster of Social Justice & Empowerment here today. 

Speaking to the media after taking over as Minister, He said that the priority of the Government is to work for the poor. Our Department therefore is committed to work for the social, economic and educational empowerment of scheduled caste, other backward classes, and persons with disabilities. The Department would also ensure implementation of schemes for senior citizen and schemes for drug prevention. Shri Gehlot also added that his priority would be to ensure that the benefit of schemes actually reach the target groups. 

The Minister also added that all efforts will be made for proper implementation of schemes and ensuring that if there are any shortcomings in implementation, such shortcomings shall be attended too immediately and removed. In case schemes are not implemented properly, accountability shall also be fixed. 

Later the Minister was briefed on the key initiatives and policy frame work of the Ministry by the Secretary Social Justice & Empowerment Shri Sudhir Bhargava and Secretary Department of Disability Smt. Stuti Kakkar and other senior officials of the Ministry.
