Sixth pay commission to submit report by 4th April

The government will submit the Sixth Pay Commission report that was constituted in October 2006 to recommend comprehensive changes in salary structure of the government employees by 4th April. "The Commission is to finalise and submit its report within 18 months of its constitution, that is 4th April, 2008," Minister of state for Finance P K Bansal told Rajya Sabha in a written reply on Tuesday. About implementation of the Pay Commission's recommendations, Bansal said, "Since the report is to be submitted the time frame for its implementation cannot be stated". With regard to the terms of reference of the Sixth Pay Commission, he said the Commission is examining the desirability and need to sanction any interim relief till the time its recommendations are made. On media reports about a huge hike in salaries of civil service staff, Bansal added that the Commission is yet to finalise and submit its report, so the information doing the rounds in media might be speculative. It would give recommendations concerning the pay structure of government employees comprising industrial and non-industrial central government employees, All India Services, Armed Forces personnel and employees in the Union Territories. Besides, the Commission would examine the pay structure for Indian Audit and Accounts Department, regulatory bodies set up by Acts in the Parliament and Supreme Court employees, Bansal said.
