2 shocking rapes in UP in a single week 

After several cases being reported from all across the country of women going through harassment, abuse and rape, on 14th August, a thirteen-year-old girl from the Lakhimpur Kheri district (near Nepal border) was raped and murdered, who went to a nearby field to attend to nature's call.

On being missing for several hours, the girl's father along with some villagers went for a search and found her dead body in a sugarcane field. Shockingly, as per the father's claim the girl's body was strangled, her eyes gouged out and her tongue cut.
Previously in the same week, a six-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped in western UP's Hapur district and was admitted critical in the hospital. The accused was found and arrested. 

Report and action

As per the UP police, the post mortem report did not show that the eyes were gouged out or the tongue cut and mentioned that there were sharp scratches near the eyes which were caused by the sugarcane leaves.

The police have arrested two men in connection with the rape as the girl's body was found in of their field.

Ministers like Mayawati condemned the act and called it "extremely shameful". Others called it a 'Gunda Raj' where women and girls were not safe.
