Tom Tom, one of the top GPS manufacturers, has filed countersuit against the Microsoft in the U.S District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, on March 16 alleging that Microsoft has infringed at least four of their patents by releasing the popular Microsoft Streets and Trips software program. This countersuit was filed in response to the suit filed by Microsoft against the Tom Tom last month (25th February) in U.S. District Court in Seattle and the International Trade Commission, wherein, Microsoft claimed in its suit that Tom Tom infringed on eight of their patents by using Microsofts file allocation table technology. However, the Microsoft is firm on its decision of not withdrawing the suits. In a statement issued on 19th March, by Microsoft, the company has said, We are reviewing Tom Toms filing, which we have just received. As has been the case for more than a year, we remain committed to a licensing solution, although we will continue to press ahead with the complaints we initiated in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington and the International Trade Commission.
