NATIONAL NEWS
1. Parliament of India allows legal abortion up to 24 weeks
• This week, the Parliament passed the Madical Termination of Preganancy (Amendment) Bill which legalized abortion upto 24 weeks.
• Earlier, the upper limit for allowing abortions was 20 weeks.
2. E-Court training for lawyers: Madras HC
• The Madras HC has started conducting various training programs for advocates.
• This is being done with the aim of acquainting the advocates better with all the aspects related to e-court.
3. SC overruled its ‘NV International’ judgment
• In the case of Govt of Maharashtra v. Borse Brothers Engineers & Contractors pvt ltd, the Supreme Court has overruled its judgment according to which the delay of more than 120 days for an arbitration appeal under Section 37 could not be condoned.
• The Supreme Court has held that in certain exceptional cases, the condonation may be given.
4. P&H HC allowed wife to appear via video conferencing for the registration of marriage
• In the case of Ami Ranjan v. State of Haryana, the Punjab & Haryana HC allowed the wife to appear via video conferencing for the registration of a couple’s marriage under the Special Marriage Act.
• “In this case, presence of Misha Verma(wife) can be secured through video conferencing and presence of husband Ami Ranjan and three witnesses can be marked by their presence in the Office of the Registrar of Marriages,” the Court held.

1. Bill approved in Canada that expands scope of medical assistance in dying
• A bill has been passed by the Senate in Canada which has expanded medical assistance in dying for the Canadians.
• This Bill eliminates the requirement of reasonable foreseeability of death for obtaining medical access.
