- Ex-CJI had recommended justice N.V Ramana's name with regards to the terms of seniority.
- The tenure of the 48th CJI will be for 16 months I.e. till 26th August 2022.
- In the past there was a controversy wherein the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh had levelled allegations against CJI N.V Ramana that he influenced the HC of Andhra Pradesh to destabilize his government. However, these allegations were dismissed after an in-house procedure conducted by SC.

- It is also been reported that the new CJI will need to make appointments to fill 6 vacancies for the post of Supreme Court judges because during the tenure of Ex-CJI no such vacancies were filled.
- Before he was promoted as a judge in the Supreme court in 2014 he was earlier the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh and then in 2013 became the Chief Justice of Delhi High Court.
- His famous judgements include cases like the Jammu & Kashmir internet suspension case, the case wherein he pronounced that the CJI comes under the ambit of RTI, Pawan Kumar Gupta's curative petition dismissed in Nirbhaya Gang rape case also the landmark judgement passed in Karnataka Assembly Case to name a few.
