Without labour, nothing prospers. - Sophocles

ABOUT INTERNATIONAL LABOUR DAY

1st may is observed as International Labor Day universally, in order to celebrate the labors and the working class. The dateMay 1 has a special significance, as this day was chosen to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket affair in Chicago. It is on this day that people had declared a general strike for an eight-hour workday. Back then, industrialists and the rich people used to make the labors work for over a period of 15 hours in a day.In India, the day is also known as AntarrashtriyaShramikDiwas or Kamgar Din.The day was first observed in India in the year 1923.

During this pandemic, if there is one thing that we have realized is that the key to a Nation’s survival are not the millionaires or billionaires, but the workers and daily wage earners. They are the heart and soul of our country and there significance and importance must be realized and we, as citizens, should do everything in our power to contribute for their well-being while they look after our well-being during such trying times. Because the truth is that if suddenly the whole workers of the whole world disappear then the whole world will stop!

Hence, one should remember that no work is insignificant. All labour that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.
