The provisions with respect to the anti smoking at public places should be strictly implemented as it affects the health of the non-smokers and violate their fundamental right to life and liberty. However as this evil cannot be eradicated in a day as there are so many people who must have been addicted to smoking as such the government should make provisions of making smoking zones and such persons should be given counselling and be persuaded to shun this bad habbit.

The positive efforts of the Hon'ble UMOH&FW to ban smoking in public places are really laudable. Of course, its really difficult to enforce among the masses. The mind set of the general public has to change. There have to be some valuantary efforts from the public itself, afterall smoking affects our health whether it is active or passive. There must be some concerted movement from all sections of the society across the nation to end this menace.

Why only smoking? What about the abnoxious smoke emitting factories? What about non consumption of gas as a fuel for cooking by villagers and poor people who use wood or cowdung as a fuel? What about the government vehicles which are never kept in order and do not need a P.U.C. certificate? ANYTHING WHICH GIVES PLEASURE TO A MAN IS IMMEDIATELY BRANDED AS A CRIME SO THAT THE STATE MAKES US FEEL MORE GUILTY AND KEEPS COLLECTING FINE TO BE USED IN AN IRRESPONSIBLE MANNER TO build bridges and impose tolls where not required, to build statues, to change names of governemnt institutions. The governemnt things development can be carried out only by spending money on construction. This the only way it can extract money by corruption.

more than the smokers, smoking is injuring the passive smokers. it is also becoming a passion among the kids and youngsters, when they see smokers in public. it is very commendable on part of the government to come up with such an idea to ban smoking in public places and moreover if it is strictly implemented only, else there will be no use of the law.

Smoking should be banned in Public places and Smokers should smoke without any presence of Non-Smoker. OR Smoker should smoke with presense of Smokers , only to avoid infection to Nonsmokers wheather Non--Smoker permits him to smoke . Tabbacoo eating or chuing should also be banned in public places to avoid cancers.

Passive smoking is harmful to innocent people. So smoking in public place is dangerous. Kerala HC has banned the smoking in public The judgement is in detail. Justice K. Narayana Kurup of Kerala HC's contributions to the humanity in the field of public health by judicially and with innovation addressing itself to the hazards of passive smoking (Environmental Tobacco Smoke ETS) is perhaps the most monumental one ever made by any non-medical person in the annals of history. Generations unborn will cherish this classic verdict as a priceless legacy of a humane judge Health indicators of Kerala State such as infant mortality rate (14/ 1000 live births) and life expectancy at birth (71 yr for men and 76 yr for women) are far ahead of the Indian averages (IMR 58, life expectancy men 62 and women 63) and closer to the developed countries. However, tobacco use prevalence is similar to the national average. Smoking is the commonest form of tobacco usage among men in the State whereas chewing tobacco is more common among women and children. Tobacco chewing among men is increasing in Kerala probably due to the smoking ban and industry strategy to focus on smokeless tobacco. Tobacco use is significantly more among the low socio-economic (SE) groups compared to the high SE group. Mortality and morbidity attributed to tobacco is higher among the poorest people in the State. Age adjusted cancer rate of oral cavity and lung cancer has been increasing in the State in recent years. Heart diseases among the young people are increasing in the State. Cancer and heart diseases are chronic illnesses which may pull the individual and the entire family below the poverty line. Tobacco control therefore should be a top priority not only as a health issue but as a poverty reduction issue. Poverty alleviation is one of the major goals of developing economies. No poverty alleviation programme can ignore the potential impoverishment associated with tobacco use. Kerala with a very strong decentralized government has a very good opportunity to address tobacco control as a priority at the grass root level and reduce the impoverishment due to tobacco use.

Ban of smoking in public places is an appreciable move by the Government considering the fact that the Government gets a good amount of revenue from Tobacca Products. Not only smoking in public places, but there should be ban on sale of Tobacca Products in and around places of worship, schools, public parks, hospitals, Government Offices, public transports so as to minimise the use of Tobacco products at such places.

Smoking of cigarettes is a harmful habit and in course of time, can lead to grave health hazards. Researches carried out in various parts of the world have confirmed that there is a relationship between smoking of cigarettes and lung cancer. Tobacco smoking also adds to the air pollution. Fundamental right guaranteed under Article 21 of the Constitution of India inter alia provides that no one shall be deprived of his life without due process of law. There is no reason why a non-smoker should be afflicted by various diseases including lung cancer only because he is required to go to public places. It is in directly depriving him of his life without any process of law. Realising the gravity of the situation and considering the adverse effect of smoking as smokers and passive smokers the Honourable Supreme Court of India in Murali S Deora Vs. Union of India has directed Union of India and State Governments to take effective steps to ensure prohibiting smoking in public places.
