Seeking help wrt to society's illogical rules

Hi,

I recently shifted to a house in Mumbai as a tenant. Before I finalized the flat, we had a conversation with the flat owner that we wished to put mosquito net outside the window in the flower bed area to prevent any insects or pigeons, etc to come into the house as I am allergic to many insects. The owner agreed to it. When we met the society members, we were handed over certain rules, which no-where mentioned that we were not allowed to put a mosquito net in that area. After I paid for all the labour and did my registration and shifted, with almost 15 days of physical stress, the society people come and tells me that I have to remove the net as it spoils the look of the building due to irregular aesthetics. At the same time they said I could fix a grill at the same place. First of all, if I have to think logically, the grill will look even more different if it is fitted in few and not fitted in others. So a few questions - 1.  does the society have rights to make such rules?  2. Also, if the society had no such rule listed earlier can they ask us to remove it?  3. Should the society not make similar rules and object towards the grill too if they were concerned about aesthetics? 4. If the net in no ways is disturbing other residents, and is needed by me for my own reasons, should the owner not have informed this to us earlier that they will not permit? What actions can I take or not take against such unfortunate and illogical issues?

I am highly disappointed cause its been 15 days since the net was fixed, in presence of the owner. I just shifted 5 days back and now all these issues. Had I been told this earlier I would not have finalized the house, paid for registration, paid for labour charges to the people who did the job and harassed myself with all the shifting, stress and expenses. For me, it was a primary need in the house.

Please help and guide what could be the way to get out of such issues.

Thanks!
