A major clash broke out in the Meerut district jail this morning between the prisoners and the security personnel in which several people were injured.
Policemen, who rushed inside, also fired in air to control the prisoners who torched properties inside the jail.
Official sources said the clash started last evening after the jail authorities detected several items including mobile phones and other things from the barracks.
Sources said four fire tenders were rushed to control the fire inside the jail while PAC and policemen from almost all the police stations in the city were rushed there.
Officials are also tight-lipped over the incident and refused to give any details about the injured prisoners.
