Abscond by firm

Hello one of my friend was working in an IT firm under a contract of 18 months His mother gor seriously ill and thus he went to took care of her.He explained this to his team lead and also asked for the guidance in case of resigning but he did not get much help therefore he applied for leave and went home and due to serious conditions he did not get the time to apply for resign Now the problem is that the firm has absconded my friend what he should do in following cases if he is absconded by the firm will he be able to apply for job in another company later or not when the conditions get better There is financial problem also therefore he did not want to give the bond money.he cannot leave his mother so he cannot serve the notice period What steps should he take so that he could be saved from the contract money and can leave the firm so that in near future if he applies for job in another firm it will not be affected by this case Note: The firm has not contacted the employee in any manner and the news of absconding came through a friend in the firm please reply as soon as possible
