Learning Law

hi i am a new student of law and am really interested in the subjects, but will want to know if there is a systematic approach of studying the subjects. The professors in my class are able to follow only whats there in the textbook due to constrain of time. i am really interested in the subject and would like to know if there is any particular methodology of studying. should i first understand some basic stuff before i start reading the subjects or should i just proceed by reading the textbooks and cases? your opinions will greatly help.

As a first step develop your analytical skills as the basic demand for the profession is to how good or bad you can interpret and understand the laws.  If you can do that effectively then your adaptability towards any law subject will become a cake walk as there is no need to fix up a specific author.
