Plea filed for formation of National Kinnars Commission

SC: Plea filed for formation of National Kinnars Commission

1/21/2009

Sonam Singh, a Kinnar (Eunuch) from Ajmer filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Union Government to immediately set up National Kinnars Commission to look after the long neglected segment of society.

Sonam has also demanded reservation of seats in Parliament, Assemblies and local bodies elections.

The petitioner, who filed the petition, has also contended that no government till date has thought of the welfare of Kinnars, who are socially, economically and educationally backward and belong to the worst neglected segment of Indian society.

They do not have any reservation in jobs or educational institutions like other backward and oppressed segments of the society.

Kinnars in this country do not enjoy any fundamental or human rights like other citizens of the country.

The petitioner has urged the apex court to direct the Union Government to immediately set up National Kinnars Commission for the uplift of this unfortunate segment of the society, who are also human beings and deserve a better deal from the authorities, trying to set up a society based on the principle of equality and social justice.

The petitioner has also alleged that Kinnars are being treated as outcastes in the largest democracy of the world.
