Sun films on car window glasses

Hi,

I want to know if the sun (black) films are allowed on vehicle (car) window glass in the state of Maharashtra. Sometimes police stop the car and ask to pay fine for having sun films on the windows. At times they even flaunt some paper showing some Supreme Court ruling regarding this.

I am aware of such rules in the state of Punjab for sure and possibly in J&K, but have not come across such news for the State of Maharashtra. I request clarification on this issue to ensure that the traffic police do not harass the commuters simply for extracting money and also to know what the facts are.

Thank you and best regards.

Dear Rajindia,

Hon'ble Supreme Court had announced that “we prohibit the use of black films of any visual light transmission (VLT) percentage or any other material upon the safety glasses, windscreens (front and rear) and side glasses of all vehicles throughout the country”. Hence usage of any kind of film / screen on car windows are prohibited.
