Two officials of pf department arrested for illegal demand

Two officials of the Provident Fund Commissioner’s office were arrested for taking bribes to settle a case, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official said Tuesday.

‘A complaint was registered based on a written complaint that Enforcement Officer A.L. Dighe demanded a bribe of Rs.20,000 on behalf of Assistant Provident Fund Commissioner N.S. Margaj for getting the closure report of the case of Om Sai Enterprises pending with Margaj,’ said an official of the CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch said.

‘Verification of demand was proved as Dighe was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000 as part payment out of demanded amount at the office premises on northwest suburb of Kandivli Monday,’ the official added.

The bribe amount was then recovered along with Rs.58,000 found in different packets from the trouser pocket and office file of Margaj. Both the officials were then arrested.

The duo was brought before a Mumbai court Tuesday and have been remanded to police custody till Oct 7.
