Agricultural land purchase in gujarat

Respected Lawyers & Legal Advisors,

How can a non-farmer purchase Agricultural Land in Gujarat...? Gujarat has strict laws for sell/purchase of Agricultural / farm land. Typically, a person shall be a Gujarati Farmer. However, some room was advised in Gujarat Land Act, which was to be effective in August. No news about it yet..!!

So, now, how can a Gujarati Non-farmer, purchase an Agricultural Land..???

In Gujarat, if you do not belong to a farmer family, you are not permitted to purchase agricultural land.

However, if you are willing to leave other professions and take on farming, you may take farmland on lease for cultivation for short term. After an adequate period of time, you can apply to the collector for becoming a farmer in Gujarat providing evidence of your farming activity. You may be permitted by him to become a farmer if he is convinced about your intentions.

Also, why do you wish to start farming only in Gujarat state. If it would be ok for you then it is suggested that you can start in some other state like Rajasthan.

You mentioned that I can be a tenant for "short term".. How short, this term needs to be?

Thanks again,

Abhishek
