Murder is one of the gravest offences and that’s why even an attempt to cause murder is considered to be as serious as the actual offence of committing murder. Section 307 of IPC defines the offence of attempt to murder. It states that whoever does any act with the intention or knowledge, that such act would cause the death of any person, he would be guilty of murder, and shall be punished with imprisonment for a term up to ten years, and shall also be liable to fine. In addition, this Section states that if hurt is caused to any person by such an act, the offender shall be liable either to imprisonment for life or to the punishment mentioned above.

If what you say is having reference to the provisoion of law as mentioned above, you may give a complaint under this section.

But please be aware that the police will register the case based on the complaint as well as on finding cognizance of offence only and not on the basis of the instructions of the complanant

Your father in law can file complaint in police and it is him who has to give the statement of attemptted to murder with ill motives

Can we consider this as hurt (tuberclosis - resulting in medical ailment for years) is caused to the person by the act of putting into dark room, and get life imprisonment u/s 307 of IPC, to validate and strengthen the case.
