The details of permissible commercial activities can be had from the society rules/byelaws.  If a person carries on activities which is not permissible a complaint can be made to the society and then the society can take action against him.

The bye-laws does not permit any commercial activity to be conducted in a residential premises. Commercial Activities are generally running of business from the residence, office, go-down, clinic etc., involve wide range of activities. You may check up the definitions from the local corporation/municipal laws. Even if the society by special resolution permits any activities, the member carrying out the commercial activity or the lessor availing the premises for such activity has to get specific permission from the local authorities.

Any commercial activity needs some kind of approval and licence from the competent  authorities,be it a private residential place or cooperative housing societies. The coperative sicieties act, or Housing Society bylaws legally recognize any commercial activity in its premises.
