Compensation awarded u/s 22 in The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act "for the injuries, including mental torture and emotional distress, caused by the acts of domestic violence committed by that respondent," comes within a separate purview, different from that of 'maintenance', (which is often denied to wives on grounds of them having a sustainable job,) as unlike maintenance, compensation is awarded for making right the civil wrong (committed by the respondent in question.)
Once the court awards the wife such compensation to be paid by the husband, the order cannot be simply nullified. (It has nothing to do with the wife having a government/sustainable/no job.)
