Is there any minimum number of directors that a company has to appoint?

Dear Haninullah:
Section 252 reads as follows: MINIMUM NUMBER OF DIRECTORS. (1) Every public company (other than a public company which has become such by virtue of section 43(A) shall have at least three directors. (2) Every other company shall have at least two directors. (3) The directors of a company collectively are referred to in this Act as the "Board of directors" or "Board".

Public Companies
Minimum Three, Maximum 12

Maximum twelve ( section 259 says that number of directors can be increased beyond twelve by permission of central government )
