Meera , a successful businesswoman, was called to our college for a session towards the end of the session she suddenly accused Vikram, another businessman, of bribing government officials to win a big contract. Stating that she had suffered heft loss due to his connections being with politician that had led him to get the contract. To which Vikram denied the accusation right away, saying it wasn’t true. However, Riya’s claim spread quickly on social media and in business circles. Because of this, Vikram’s reputation suffered. Feeling hurt by the damage to his image, Vikram sued Riya for defamation. He said her statement was reckless and harmed his career. Did Riya’s accusation during the session legally count as defamation, or was it just a part of the conversation?
