The General Power of Attorney may be given by your son to you.  For registration purposes, the stamp duty varies from one state to another state.  Consult the local registrar's office.  But giving GPA to family members (father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister) the stamp duty is less in many states.  There are pros and cons in the matter.

Insofar as the transactions related to immovable property proposed to be done through the General power of attorney deed, the said deed is to be executed by a registered document, unless you may not be able to purchase the property on his behalf.

The stamp duty and the registration charges depends on the nature of the POA deed, you my enquire about it in the local SRO .
