Export of any product/ goods or service requires lot of preparation and procedures by an Exporter. To know about what are those processes and formalities for export of products from India to other countries, please have a look at the below mentioned steps:

I. Know & selection of the product for which you wish to start the export Business

II. Registration of Business entity: Next step is to register your business to initiate the process of export. The business can be registered as Sole Proprietor (in case of sole entrepreneur) , a Partnership Firm, an Limited Liability Partnership or a Private Limited Company etc. in case of 2 or more than 2 partners.

III. Make your own brand: In case you have selected the “FOOD PRODUCTS” for exporting them to other country, you should register your brand name in India under Trademarks Act 1999 at-least to protect the brand logo and name from the competitors in the market.

IV. After registering an entity, the next step should be opening a current account with the help of certain documents as required by the concerned bank. One should have firm/ Company related documents, KYC of Proprietor or Partners, Registered Office Address proofs etc. for the same.

V. The most important step after getting the current account open is filing an application for Import Export Code. The Import Export Code (IEC) is a mandatory Registration Certificate given by DGFT against PAN. The IEC can be applied online on DGFT portal. Once IEC is received by exporter, to avail the authorization to import or export or any other related benefits, one shall require obtaining Registration cum Membership Certificate (RCMC) which is granted by concerned Export Promotion Councils/ FIEO/Commodity Boards/ Authorities.

VI. Send your sample products to your eligible buyers in the foreign market based on their demands. Export of technical samples of freely exportable items is permissible under the Act.

VII. The major factors like costing, negotiations with buyers etc. to be taken care of.

VIII. Once the order is confirmed, the next step should be procurement of products manufactured as per the requirement of the Buyer.

IX. Make sure that the quality, packaging, labelling, packing and marking is carefully done as per instructions received from the buyer.

X. Do not forget to take insurance of the goods exporting outside the country.

XI. One needs to follow custom procedure for getting the goods delivered at the buyers’ place.

In addition to the above mentioned steps, proper documentation is very important for Import & export of goods.
