India bets big on Coir Exports to Netherlands
Kochi: India’s Coir production and processing will get a boost as the newer horizons for the trade relations with Netherlands seen emerging from the on-going four-day Amsterdam Horti Fair-2010.
In a statement issued Wednesday, the Coir Board Chairman, VS Vijayaraghavan maintained that the Coir Board's participation will give a boost to India's growing exports of coir and coir products to the Netherlands, especially coir pith products and coir garden articles.
The Board has set up a coir pavilion at the fair, in which seven coir product exporters from Kerala and Tamil Nadu are participating.
The Horti Fair, which is at Amsterdam, is one of the potential markets for Indian coir products. Participants have come from over 35 countries from across the world.
The Netherlands was the largest importing country in the case of coir pith and the third largest in terms of Indian coir products, including handloom mats, tufted mats, coir yarn, handloom mattings, coir fibre and geo-textiles, during 2009-10, the Board noted.
