In western contries pre-nups mention that there will be no claim for maintenance in case marriage fails.will your would-be-wife be ready to sign such an agreement?

better get affidavit from them that no dowry has been demanded or taken.

If a woman doesn't want to sign-there won't be a marriage! She will not be a wife! That is the solution to all these woman biased laws. Validity of such agreements will make it much easier to divorce, as divorce parameters are agreed to before marriage. That is the whole idea. Hindu marriage being sacred is absolute nonsense. One cannot use old concepts where it suits them. Either we have rules commensurate with 21st century or we have old system in toto (No divorce at all). The current mess is ridiculous. Making provisions for divorce and harping on sacredness of marriage,I think, is contradictory. Delaying divorce to unwilling couples is tantamount to cruelty and harassment.

Woman in India is treated as someone's (male's) responsibility through out her life! She is to be supported by father when young, by husband and later by her sons! The question is why can't a woman who wants to marry and have a life of her own, be treated as an adult and an independent person? Prenuptial agreement shall be between her and her future husband. It treats her as someone who can independently exercise her will. That is the best respect one can give to a woman.
