Making students stand with their hands up is a crime?

hey..I was working in one of the international school of delhi..last week students of class 11 were making noise so i made them stand for 5 minutes in the classroom with their hands up in order to maintain discipline in the class.Prinicipal of the school called me up after that and said you have to resign because it is a punishment and they started mentally harrasing me for spoiling my career. i wanted to know is this a crime? as it is done in good faith with the students i wanted to know what action can be taken against a teacher for doing this? please help
