notarized affidavit

Do multiple deponents (senior citizens) have to be present when the document is being notarized?

As per your concern, let me tell you that basically a notary is a public officer appointed and commissioned to administer oaths, to take acknowledgements, and to perform other duties specified by law. The main emphasis here is that the notary is a public officer who is empowered to perform official acts for the State.

Basically, one of the major ways that a notary prevents fraud in written transactions is to require that the document signer personally appear before the notary at the time of the notarization.

In fact, the law actually prohibits a notary from notarizing a signature if the signer is not present. Moreover, violating the personal presence requirement may result in a monetary loss for the victim, leading to a lawsuit against the notary or a claim against the notary's bond.

Henceforth, the presence is absolutely necessary during the notarization of a document.

Hope It Helps!

It is compulsory for all signitaries to be present before the notary public for attestation of their signatures.
