Old owner and new owner claiming for rent

I am staying in a rented flat since Feb 2011.  In Feb 2012 my house owner sold the house.  Now both the old house owner and new house owner are claiming for rent.  We have paid advance to the old house owner.  The new house owner has shown her registration documents and is claiming for rent.  The old house owner says that the dues are not completely settled hence rent should be paid to him.  In the mean time my new house owner threatens saying she'll bring the police.  We are two working ladies staying in the house.  Kindly advice

1.  to whom we should pay the rent

2. Can the new house owner vacate us by force

3. How to get back the advance from my old house owner.  Pls note that we don't have an agreement with our old house owner

If you have the receipt for the advance paid to the old house owner then communicate to the new owner submitting a photo copy of the same.

I opine that instead of they going to police better you lodge a complaint that these two guys are coming and harrasing for the rent or go to a lawyer and do accordingly. As far as my knowledge the new owner can't  make you to vacate the house.
