Same surname & gothra marriage

Hello everyone,

Me and my girl friend have same surname and same gothra. But we are not relatives. As far as my knowledge and the research we have done. We came to know that our great grandfathers are not the same ( my fathers grand father and her fathers grand father are not the same). Beyond this link we are not able to find because our parents have no further information. We do not have any cousins in common. We tried to find the connection but there are no common relatives. Can we get married?

Thank you.

same gotra? You are relatives.

May be.... But I find no point in saying relatives when we and our families are perfect strangers to each other. And could even find even a single connection. May be we should assume so sir. I am not so perfect with these things. Thank you sir.

Section 5 of Hindu marriage Act says that marriage can not take place within the same gotra / sapinda. This is as per Hindu Law. If you believe in this you can not marry.

Yes... But it also says if we are not 5th lineal cousins to each other. Then we can get married.
