If your boy friend is so weak to take decision at the time of his Nikah, you decide about your future. One can say anything that earlier Nikah was contracted on family/society pressure, reputation, where is that feeling of relatives or family has gone now and if one can forget now all family values, reputation, why he was not so bold at the time of earlier marriage. Secondly, how you can be so selfish that you want suggestion, how a innocent woman can be deprive of his right of mehr. If you are in love with him, Muslim Law allow multiple marriage, make your boy friend wife as your sister and stay together. Please think that lady pain and suffering. One woman can understand emotions of other women and act accordingly. Please don't misunderstand me, if I am being harsh here. If it is final decision, you both should do something more other than mehr, so she can lead life with honour. All the best!

Apart from ethics, the legal position in brief is that you can not marry him neither under special marriage act nor under personal law. further, if you convert into muslim, then also it is illegal, SC in Sarla Mudgal case has declared that the conversion for the purpose of marriage is illegal and the marriage is also null and void...... the only solution is ,,,,, our boyfriend gives valid talaq to his wife and get solemnised marriage with you under special marriage act........... (be careful )
