Suit for recovery of possession without declaration of title

A suit against a trespasser of land is filed for recovery of possession with mesne profits.  The defendant denied title.  Issue as to title is framed. Normally,  a relief of declaration of title is optional and if title is proved , suit must be decreed, unless adverse possession is proved. Is not the suit maintainable without the prayer for declaration of title? Pl. furnish rulings

thank you
