TDS from employee

My client was suspended from service in 2002 and was reinstated in 2015 as not guilty. Total periods salary was paid in one lump. Now the department is forcibly recovering entire salary for the past 2 months. Total tax is ₹ 3,15,000/-. Is there any way we can save him without evading tax? Tax can be recovered in bearable installments
