what is sc st act

The objective of the SC/ST Act is the intention of the government to deliver justice to these communities through efforts to enable them to live in society with dignity and self-esteem and without fear or violence or suppression from the dominant castes.

The immediate arrest however has been banned under this section due to rampant misuse. 

 

Investigation of an offence committed under the SC/ST Act cannot be investigated by an officer not below the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP).
