If these laws are not there the total freedom and self respect towards women community will be collapsed. Thus they are essential laws to be in vogue.

yes, it is misused by many women who married because they have no other than this act right now to fight with the husband. i hope as the education increases in the people regarding the use and misuse, perhaps by that time there will be less misuse of the Act's than of now

Dear collegues, i beg to differ, according to my research only 10% of the actual cases of domestic violence is registered, and in fact the nature of allegations are only tip of ice bergs.... it was reported that in punjab 60% of females are subjected to domestic violence and only a fraction of it is recorded. As far as misuse of a law is concerned then I must say most widely misused law is IPC and CrPC as unbriddled power to police is given and they commit crime on us day in and out. Just because a few persons are venting out there vendata through Domestic violence act, that itself can not make it useless. Besides i also beg to plead that more sringent law should be made to cope up wid the increasing torturing opf the fair sex.

As is with every legislation in this country post independence, most of the acts are a reactionnary rather than a wholesome approach towards providing rights and remedies.

Yes this Act needs more clarifications and transparency. Being an Advocate I am handling cases u/s 498-A IPC & 3/4 Dowry Prohibition Act which appears prima-facie false & vague.

To take vengence of the in-laws and the unwanted husband the act is misused. Suitable law should be enacted to counter such misuse

Most of the women filing complaints under the above said Acts only to harass the husband and in-laws. Most of the All women police stations are busy only in recording complaints under these two Acts

Yes. Interestingly, a large number of complaints have come from women themselves, mainly mothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. According to National Crime Records Bureau figures quoted by NGOs working on marital harmony, about 1.2 lakh women have been falsely implicated under section 498A.
